A cochlear implant is an implantable electronic device that provides useful sound perception via electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve.
Who Is a Candidate?
Adult candidates must have severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss (often referred to as "nerve deafness"). Candidates must receive little or no benefit from appropriately fitted hearing aids. There is no upper age limit for implantation. Pediatric candidates must have profound sensorineural hearing loss and receive limited benefit from appropriately fitted hearing aids.
